Good readers imagine what they read. They create images in their minds of:

Fiction:
  • characters -- what they look like, what they act like, and how they interact with each other
  • setting -- where, when, and the social conditions (how people behave towards one another)
  • problem -- what is the problem and who has the problem
  • plot -- the events as they occur
  • connections -- how are these connected and what do they remind me of
Nonfiction
    • main idea -- what is the topic
    • details -- how do the parts relate to the whole -- what image do I see
    • big picture -- imagine this idea at work
    • vocabulary -- what does it look like
